Search the World Wide Web
The Internet is full of great information, but it also has a lot of sites that are not completely accurate and sites that have things that are not meant for children. Parents are encouraged to search the Internet with their children and monitor the sites their children visit.
How do I tell if the information is credible?
Sites with .gov, .edu, or .org at the end of web addresses are sites that are most likely created by credentialed individuals. Sites that end in .com can be created by businesses, individuals, and groups that may not be an expert on the subject of the website. Also look for sites that have the date they were last updated and the name of the person responsible for the website.
Be a Safe Surfer!!
It is important that you know how to be safe on the Internet. Take a look at the FBI's Internet Safety Rules before surfing.
When you've learned the safety rules and have your parents' permission, you are ready to surf the web. Here are some great search engines and directories that can help you find the information you need!
